It leaves a person wondering…. “why does this happened and how can I change the pattern?” When our brain perceives that we are in danger, it automatically reverts to the default programming we already have in place. These beliefs and patterns of behavior were crafted by your subconscious mind to protect you from danger, using the information from previously stressing similar events in your life. Most of these patterns we are running were instilled before we were ten years old. They were created because of situations we perceived as dangerous at the time, not reflecting our current state of empowerment. Unfortunately, it takes a conscious effort and aligned action to prevent this scenario from reoccurring. People rarely realize that they are living by these outdated behavioral patterns. Understanding that you can change them is extremely liberating. Figuring out how is the next vital step.
One thing to do if we are feeling we are reverting back to a pattern we do not want to continue living with, is to check our focus. When we are stressed our focus narrows on what is the worst possible case scenario. This narrowing of possible reactions, and subsequent outcomes, creates the limiting vibrational state we are operating from. From this place of fear, we start to concoct our ”story” of what is happening to us. When we feel under attack, we unknowingly label ourselves as the victim. Victims need protection, and this is where blame, shame and projection come into the equation, further burying us in a cycle of defense mechanisms. Becoming aware of when we feel this mental narrowing is the first step of getting out of our rut. From this position of awareness, we can choose not to be a victim by broadening our focus. This switch in perspective offers up a bounty of possible better reactions. Changing the default to these deeply ingrained patterns of thought can be exceedingly difficult.
